Many "old school" developers will speak in glowing terms of WordPress as a "the" web platform. I'm sorry to burst your bubble here, but it's not. In fact, 3 out of 4 hacked websites are WordPress (click here to read for yourself).
The threat is not the platform itself, but the millions of FREE plug-ins developers use to build your website. It could be the contact panel, a response form, a landing page banner, a drop-down menu or image gallery. Any plug-ins that allows functionality on your website.
So what happens when just one of these FREE plug-in is no longer supported or continues to be updated by its creator? Well, it creates a small hole through which hackers enter the backdoor of your website and create chaos.
For most business owners, the task of monthly website backups, installation of WordPress platform updates, downloading and installing the various updates for each of the plug-ins and then re-loading the website is generally part of a monthly maintenance fee that can range from $250 per quarter upwards over and above your annual hosting fees.
